The United Madrassi Association (UMA) hosts events which promote DEVOTION THROUGH ACTION. While it's important to visit houses of worship, UMA believes the greatest act of worship to God is serving humanity. UMA celebrates the one attribute which UNITES us all - Our love and adoration for humanity and GOD, Adi Para Shakti.
UMA Events
United Madrassi Day Parade- UMA's featured event is a Parade where all Kovils, Mandirs, NGO's , Nonprofits and members of the community join together as one in solidarity to celebrate the Divine Mother, Maha Kali beyond the walls of a temple. After the parade, a cultural show is held to display Madrassi culture at Smokey Park. Free Event.
Dharti Amma Day- A day for volunteers to join and clean the local beaches frequented by devotees without judgement of those who litter our waterways. This event is hosted several times a year.
Annapurna Amma Day- Members of the community join together to prepare food and care-packets for hungry and homeless individuals living in the streets and in homeless shelters. All food and care-packet preparations are done by volunteers of all ages, races and religions. This events takes place twice a year. Free Event.
Family Day/Picnic in the Park: A day for families to join in a social setting to engage in food and sports. This events happens in July annually. Free Event.
Monthly Havans- In a movement to remove MONEY from devotion, UMA Jyoti Sangeet Kirtan Group members hosts monthly Havans to members of the community free of charge. NO Dakshina , Gifts or Seedhas are required.
Elderly Nursing Home Singing - UMA members visits elderly nursing homes and sing for the residents their favorite filmy songs along with Kirtan.
BLOOD DRIVE: UMA hosts a bi-annual blood drive where communities come out and get a chance to give this gift of life.
Community Events UMA supports
Phagwa Parade of New York: UMA hosts a float where Madrassi Culture is displayed. Members of the community are always encouraged to join UMA at the parade.
Diwali Motorcade : UMA joins the festivities and also participates in the annual motorcade held always on the Saturday before Diwali.
